Alice is interesting! Cool, edgy, bluesy, alternative tip! Im diggin’ it! She reminds me of RES (http://free.napster.com/view/artist/index.html?id=10461237).
Her voice is interesting…can’t quite put my hands on who she sounds similar to. But her sound is refreshing. Before getting into her album, I was familiar with her song “Fake is the new Real” (which it seems it is) – so I had a bit of an idea what to expect. Well, her album is a bit more versatile musically, which includes her singing styles and the content of her songs are good.
She has love songs, society irks me songs (a favorite of mine), songs reminiscing on better times, songs about sex/intimacy,
Most notable songs to me: Woodstock, Do I, Fake is the new real, Secrets, and Love Endeavor (my favorite).
what do others think?
Alice is really growing on me...her sound is REALLY NICE!
She's real versatile and Im really diggin' it! Gary Song has grown on me tremendously and Love Endeavor is a PHENOMENAL song to me. Its Steviesqe in production and energy! Im really feeling that song!
this album is definitely a must buy...so just go ahead and do that..LOL!
I'm an Alice Smith junkie!! Her album is a staple in my car and right from the beginning with "Dream" I'm singing at the top of my lungs. The lyrics tug at the heart and tune you into your own past and current experiences. You can't help but to relate.
"New Religion" is also a personal favorite. For those of us who continue to challenge the mundane way that religion has been presented to us and are in search of new ways to empower the light within us, this song definitely resonates.
Reminiscent of how the album begins, it ends with a song that you can't help bobbin' your head to and singing along with. "Love Endeavor" just makes you feel good (ALL over) and as a smile radiates across your face you embrace the way love makes you feel... damn GOOD!!!
So... if you haven't picked up this one yet... you are snOOzing!!! To me, Alice Smith has her own style that isn't comparable to anything I know. But, if you must align her with someone, I would say her album has a similar feel to Cree Summer's (yes the girl with the crazy hair on A Different World) album from back in the day with a little bit of Res & Erykah, but with a lot of rock-n-roll/funk edge.
Check it out for yourself!!!
